Starting this new year with some exciting news – AltTester® 2.3.0 is now available for upgrade! This update is focused on improving security, reliability, and control when running automated tests, especially in CI/CD pipelines.
The highlight of this release is Secure WebSocket (WSS) support, available across all AltTester® products, along with several important Unity SDK bug fixes that improve test stability and developer experience.
What’s new in AltTester® 2.3.0
Secure WebSocket Communication (WSS)
Available for all products:
- AltTester® Desktop
- AltTester® Unreal SDK
- AltTester® Unity SDK
In previous versions, AltTester® only supported the non-secure WebSocket (WS) protocol. With the 2.3.0 update, you now have the option to choose between WS and WSS when running tests in your pipeline.
Why WSS?
WebSockets are essential for real-time communication between your testing scripts and the game being tested. However, using the WS version comes with some security risks. Since WS communication isn’t encrypted, it’s more susceptible to vulnerabilities like intercepting messages, objects, or screenshots from your game.
WSS (Secure WebSocket) solves this issue by adding encryption to the communication, making it much more secure. This ensures that all data transmitted during testing is safely protected from prying eyes, which is particularly important when dealing with sensitive game assets or player information.
When to use WSS vs WS?
- For local testing: If you’re running tests locally and don’t need the added security, you can continue using the WS version. It’s faster and simpler when security concerns are minimal.
- For pipeline / CI testing: When running tests in the pipeline, we recommend using WSS to ensure secure, encrypted communication. This is especially crucial for protecting sensitive game data during automated tests.
Performance considerations
While WSS adds an extra layer of security, it could slightly impact test performance in some cases due to the encryption overhead. However, the security benefits typically outweigh the small potential slowdown, especially in production or remote testing environments.
License & availability
Secure WebSocket support is:
- Implemented only for AltTester® SDK NonGPL
- Enabled only if your license permits it

Bug Fixes (Unity SDK)
Alongside the security improvements, AltTester® 2.3.0 includes several important Unity SDK fixes:
Green pop-up issue resolved
Fixed a bug where a green pop-up would incorrectly appear during tests when a new version notification was triggered.
Event system error fixed
Resolved an issue where errors were continuously thrown if the Unity Event System was disabled.
Touch input registration corrected
Fixed touch input issues when using Unity’s New Input System, ensuring touch interactions are registered correctly during tests.
These fixes improve test stability and reduce noise in automated test runs.
How does this update impact your game development project?
AltTester® 2.3.0 gives you more control over security vs. performance, while also improving the day-to-day reliability of automated testing, especially for Unity projects.
Whether you’re running fast local tests or securing your CI pipeline, this release helps you adapt AltTester® to your workflow without compromising on safety or usability.
We hope you enjoy this latest update, and as always, we’re here to support you in making your testing process as smooth and secure as possible.
Plus, we would love to hear your feedback.
Happy testing!
