Release notes
V 2.4.0
New Features
AltTester® Server as Its Own Application: The server is no longer part of AltTester® Desktop. It now runs as a separate process that Desktop downloads, starts, stops and supervises for you - and that you can also run by yourself, on this machine or on another one.
Automatic Server Download and Updates: The first time you open the Start Server tab, Desktop offers to download the server for your platform and installs it next to the AltTester® CLI. When a newer server is published, the same pop-up offers to update it.
Start the Server on Launch: A new setting, on by default, starts the AltTester® Server as soon as AltTester® Desktop opens, so it is ready before you connect anything.
Redesigned Connection Panel: The Local and Remote tabs are now Start Server and Connect to Server, with a single button that starts or stops the server, a status that reports Running, Not running, Starting and Stopping, the real server address, and a collapsible section holding the port, the license key, the secure-mode toggle and the certificate.
Reworked Connected Apps and Drivers Lists: Each app card now opens to show its app id, platform, platform version, device instance id, SDK version and status as separate rows you can copy, and both lists show how many connections your subscription allows.
Improvements
Server Restarts on Configuration Changes: Changing the port, the secure-mode toggle or the certificate no longer leaves the running server on the old settings - Desktop reports that a restart is required and applies it for you.
Clearer Remote Connection Errors: Connecting to a server that is outdated, unreachable or that drops mid-session is now reported as what it is, instead of a generic timeout.
App and Driver Feedback: An app running in the background reports its status rather than timing out, and reaching your driver limit is reported with its own message.
Certificate Feedback: Certificate and password problems are shown under the field they belong to, and the fields are only validated when secure mode is on.
Faster, More Reliable Downloads: The AltTester® Server and CLI downloads pick the build for your architecture, cope with slow connections, and describe failures consistently across platforms and installers.
Interface Polish: Status colours come from the theme, error text is legible in the dark theme, the app card keeps its expanded state across refreshes, and the frame rate is capped from startup rather than only after a focus change.
Log Files: Log lines are tagged by their source and no longer carry a duplicate timestamp.
Changes
License Validation Moved to the Server: The license key is now part of the server’s settings on the Start Server tab, and the server validates it. A server cannot be started without a key, and the key can only be changed while the server is stopped.
Certificate Setting Moved: The TLS certificate for secure mode is configured on the Start Server tab, not on the Settings page.
App Status Renamed: An app that is connected and ready to be inspected now reports Available instead of Connected, on its own row rather than over the SDK version.
Batch Mode Removed: AltTester® Desktop can no longer be started with -batchmode -nographics.
Documentation: Added a page describing the AltTester® Server and how to run it, redrew the architecture diagram, and updated the connection, settings and licensing pages for the changes above.

Improvements
CLI Version Detection: The installed CLI version is read from the binary itself rather than from saved preferences, so it stays correct after a manual update.
